Group Fitness Classes

Flagstaff Athletic Club offers a wide variety of group classes to meet the needs of members of all fitness levels. Our professional group fitness instructors are certified by an NCCA accredited National Organization such as ACE, AFFA, and NETA. Modifications are demonstrated for lower intensity workouts. If you ever feel you are working too hard, or feel discomfort doing a particular exercise, ease off and speak with your instructor. Our group fitness floors are of suspended wood, which provides a resilient, safe surface that helps absorb impact. Each class is designated for one or all fitness levels: Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, but anyone may attend and modify. If you need individual instruction prior to class, please give Emilia Thom, Group Fitness Manager a call at 928-779-4593. We’ll be happy to help in any way we can!

GROUP FITNESS ETIQUETTE

  • Have mutual respect for the instructor and other participants
  • Please arrive 5-15 min prior to beginning of class to prepare your space with equipment set up
  • Be considerate of other members’ exercise space
  • Children 12-15 must be accompanied by adult, unless Independence Certified; under 12 not allowed
  • Turn off all devices—cell phones, watches or leave them outside the room
  • Don’t wear scented lotions and perfumes
  • Wait until previous class is over before entering; allow time for equipment to be put away
  • Keep conversations to a minimum
  • Wear appropriate exercise attire and shoes (unless it’s designated a barefoot class or Yoga)
  • Fans are turned on if there is agreement among the participants in that general space
  • Clean up space and equipment; put your equipment away at the end of class

GROUP FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

BARRE: A format class inspired by ballet. It mixes elements of Pilates, dance, Yoga and functional training. It will strengthen, slim and stretch your entire body!

BARRE ABOVE: a 60 min class using the ballet barre and bender balls.

BARRE 100’s: once a month 100 repetitions of key Barre exercises!

BODYCOMBAT: This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as Karate, Boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai. You will strike, punch, kick and kata your way to superior cardio fitness. Bring a towel because You will sweat!!

BODYPUMP®: The Original Barbell class that builds strength, tones your body and pushes you to the limit every time. It will challenge all your major muscle groups by using the best weight room exercises like Squats, Presses, Lifts and Curls.

BODYPUMP® 45: A shorter version of BODYPUMP® which works all the same muscle groups but combines several muscle groups in one track.

CYCLING: Bring your outdoor cycling training indoors! This class is geared to both the beginner & elite participant. Experience athletic, adrenaline pumping, drills, climbs, endurance building--all done to motivational music within a group setting.

CYCLEFIT: Blast calories in this total body workout! A combo of cycling and strengthening drills that will get your heart pounding and your muscles working.

RPM: Find your own rhythm in a cycling workout that delivers maximum cardio results with minimum impact on your joints.

FLEX-ABILITY + CORE: Treat yourself to a non-impact workout that will increase your ability to stretch, as well as strengthen your core muscles. Both are an important component of functionality and injury prevention. A class that will be beneficial in everything you do in your daily life.
Interval Intensity Training) formats.

GRIT™ Series: Three Unique workouts designed to drive different results. All are 30 min. HIIT (High Interval Intensity Training) formats.

GRIT™ Strength: Works all major muscle groups to reduce fat and help develop muscle.

GRIT™ Athletic: Incorporates principles of plyometrics to build power, increase speed and leg strength. Uses power agility training and increases muscular endurance and stamina.

GRIT™ Cardio: Explosive high-impact body weight-based workout.

HIIT! (High Intensity Interval Training) A class consisting of short bursts of intense exercises, including plyometrics and core, alternated with brief active recovery periods. Modifications will be provided.  

It is a total body cardiovascular fitness and strength conditioning workout.

High Fitness: HIGH Fitness is a ZERO equipment, full body workout that has been shown to improve overall endurance, stamina, strength, and cardiovascular health. More importantly, it yields extremely important mental health benefits. Beyond the workout, HIGH Fitness brings fun, fabulous music, and a community like no other – connection, support, and inclusion reap their own benefits on both the mind and body! KICKBOXING: Kickboxing combines martial arts-inspired moves with high energy cardio. Come burn calories, improve coordination, flexibility, build lean muscle and improve stamina. Challenging and fun for all levels.

MOVEMENT & STRENGTH: A cardio & strength workout for the Young at Heart! Music and Fun designed to keep you moving !

PILATES: Pilates develops core, strength and body alignment with the added benefits of increased flexibility, balance and improved posture.

SilverSneakers Classic: Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance and a chair is used for seated or standing support.

STEP: The cardio workout with muscle! STEP training involves stepping up and down on an adjustable platform. This unique high intensity, low impact workout appeals to everyone. This class is a good all-around cardiovascular, fat burning workout.

Beg Step: A beginning level of Step that is less intense and has less complex combos. Build up your confidence and expertise before entering the STEP class (listed above).

YOGA: A mind-body workout that increases your strength and flexibility and decreases your stress. See “Yoga at FAC” for description of each type Yoga class.

Zumba!: Zumba combines high energy & motivating music with unique moves & combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. It’s a blend of cumbia, salsa, samba, merengue and Latin dances designed to be fun & easy to do.

H20 CLASSES:

AQUA B.A.S.I.C.:  Balance, Arthritis, Strength, Interval, Core, based on the Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program, this class includes stretching, strengthening, movement and range of motion exercises and is great for pregnancy, beginners, rehabilitating and arthritis.                                 

POOLATES:  All the benefits of Pilates and Aqua Exercise!
